The Hôpital de Malévoz is an open healthcare facility, which respects the rights, freedoms, and dignity of patients. No physical restraint is used.

Its care and treatment philosophy seeks and encourages the maximum possible therapeutic collaboration for the development and maintenance of a relationship of trust and confidence that is essential for care and treatment.

The unit’s assistant physician, in close collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team (nurse, community health care assistant, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, psycho-motor therapist, psychologist, social worker) will carry out the necessary examinations and propose a treatment programme for you.

Strict rules ensure the confidentiality of your personal data, in accordance with legislation.

  • Institutional rules are displayed in each unit. These are presented to you by healthcare staff at the time of your admission.
  • Treatment activities, including in a group outside your unit, will be offered to you by the treatment team.
  • Optional activities organised by the Socio-cultural department are displayed in your unit.
  • Depending your state of health, a therapeutic framework in the unit may be necessary to protect you.
  • Within the boundaries of medical confidentiality and respect for personal privacy, close relatives are invited to supplement information that is relevant to treatment and, as appropriate, to take part in interviews with the doctor and treatment team.
  • All physical and verbal violence is prohibited. Any occurrence may lead to an interruption in hospitalisation and may be subject to a complaint.
  • Any material damage caused intentionally will be invoiced to you.
  • Doctors and health carers wear no uniform, and no gown. All staff can be identified by a name badge in a colour that is specific to their role.

Information concerning your stay

  • Room

    The treatment units are configured on a number of different floors. When your state of health permits it, you will be transferred to a room on an upper floor.
    If you have general insurance cover, you will be hospitalised in a room with two beds. You have access to collective areas (dining room, TV room, lounge, terrace, etc.).
    If you have private medical insurance, you will be hospitalised, depending upon availability, in a room with a single bed. You will have access to a range of hotel services.

  • Multimedia

    Radio - Television

    The units are equipped with radio, television, DVD players and HiFi sound systems. The use of radios and televisions is regulated by the treatment team.
    Personal equipment such as radio, television, games consoles, are in principle not permitted.

    Phone

    Each treatment unit has its own direct telephone line. The unit secretary will send this to you on request.
    You can receive telephone calls on the hospital network, which should preferably take place between 17:00 and 19:00.
    The use of mobile phones and laptops is freely permitted during your hospitalisation unless indicated otherwise by the treatment team.
    The hospital declines all responsibility in the event of the loss or theft of your mobile phone and/or laptop computer.

    Internet - Wi-Fi

    Patients have the benefit of free Wi-Fi access and can surf the Internet subject to an identification procedure. Simply select the HVS_GUEST network and launch your browser, then follow the identification instructions. A code sent via SMS will enable you to connect to the network. The guidelines for use are available at reception and from treatment departments.

  • Services

    Post

    Post is distributed once a day, in the morning.
    You can have your post forwarded as well as newspapers and magazines to which you subscribe, without reference to the hospital name, simply by indicating your name and the following address:

    You can leave outgoing post with reception, which acts as a post office collection point.
    Papers are provided for you in the cafeteria and in the treatment units.

    Kiosk (shop)

    The kiosk is located in the hospital cafeteria. Opening times:

    • During the week: 08:00 to 19:00
    • Weekends and public holidays: 10:00 to 19:00

    It stocks drinks, sandwiches, pastries and sweets, as well as basic personal items.

  • Cafeteria - Meals

    The cafeteria is located just beyond the administrative building (reception).

    The consumption of alcohol is not permitted.
    Special diets are prescribed by your doctor in collaboration with the dietician.

     

  • Spiritual life

    Upon request, staff can put you in touch with a representative of your faith.
    The times of masses and services are displayed in the chapel and in the cafeteria.
    You can use the chapel for a personal reflection during the opening times displayed by the entrance.

    Animals

    Animals are not admitted to the treatment units or to the cafeteria.

    Authorisation of temporary release from the hospital

    During your stay, temporary release may be arranged from time to time. This is discussed and decided upon with the treatment team, your doctor, your family or close relatives. The duration of the release period may not exceed 24 hours.

    Support associations – information leaflets

    Information leaflets concerning psychological illness, the promotion of health, and support associations are provided for you in the treatment units, at the cafeteria, and at reception.
    Members of AVEP (Association Valaisanne d’Entraide Psychiatrique) [Valais psychiatric support association], and of Synapsespoir (Association de proches de personnes souffrant de schizophrénie) [association of relatives of schizophrenia sufferers] are always present at the cafeteria and/or in the treatment units. Individuals suffering from psychiatric disorders, as well as the families concerned, can meet with members of these associations.
    Evening lectures organised by AVEP are open to any individual affected by a psychiatric disorder.

  • Tobacco and alcohol

    Tobacco

    All locations in the hospital, including the cafeteria are non-smoking areas.

    Alcohol – Drugs – Dangerous objects

    The consumption of alcohol and narcotics is strictly forbidden. Any occurrence may lead to exclusion from the hospital.
    Dangerous objects are prohibited.
